this day: 10/24/07: the friendship highway

After Shigatse, we traveled 475 km to the Nepalese border. Here are our travel accounts after we found internet in Katmandu. These are long and our unedited thoughts–as a warning. The road we talk about is actually called the “Frienship Highway” which is quite ironic considering what’s it’s like. Since we travled most of it [...]
this day: 10/22/07

As the archived blog post mentioned, we took a bus from Samye to Shigatse, Tibet. Here are some photos of that first night we wandered around after finding a hostel. The sun cast warm light (and just warmth) on the city as we walked around. The second the sun dipped behind the mountains, it was [...]
this day: 10/20/07

Five years ago, I was traveling in Tibet with Mike, my sister-in-law, Lucy, and friend Jason. On the 20th, we made our way from Llasa to Samye to visit the first Buddhist monastery built in Tibet. As we traveled those 3 months I tried to update my personal blog when we had internet as a way to [...]
this day : 10/19/05

My back up can’t back up because my hard drive is full…of pictures! Thousands of them. Of course, as I opened folders to cull, I got sucked in. Yet, I never look at them and certainly don’t get them printed and hung. Many of them aren’t great pictures but are memories that I have a [...]
a gorgeous set: my people

The summer light is perfect for wee family photos and I wanted to capture Mike with his kids on this Father’s Day 2012. I am glad that I did; they are a gorgeous set of people, my people.

My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light.
Edna St. Vincent Millay
The other day one of my dear dear friends sent me these words and they have been speaking to me ever since.
I haven’t created anything for creation’s sake in a [...]
thought: pinterest is the new blog

As a designer, I get a lot of inspiration from the incredibly vast blogosphere . Right when I think there can’t possibly be another beautiful design/lifestyle blog, I find 10. No joke. It kind of amazes me and sucks me in deep with all the pretty pictures and perfectly simple DIY tutorials. I start to [...]
Oh hi there: abandoning a blog

Oh hi there. No, I didn’t abandon this site. It’s just we added this little red head to our family and the last 2 months we’ve been figuring out how to keep a newborn and a toddler alive. So far so good and I think I am finally adjusted back to the constant fatigue.
I have [...]
thank you: dr. wells

You know those people that come into your life that are remarkable?
I just got word that one of my absolute favorite people passed away last week. Rick Wells was my American Studies and Art History professor at University. After I took my first class from him and he used, “Moulin Rouge” in a lecture about [...]
fireworks!

I can’t believe the fireworks were already a week ago. Where are you going summer? I didn’t have a tripod so went for the handheld shaky shots. I actually think I might get them printed to hang in my lounge

this rug: someday please

Mike and I are eventually going to re-do the house that we tore apart 3 years ago when we bought (pre-recession). And that one day when we do re-do it, if we have any moola left to decorate, I would like a Sonya Winner rug. Well, maybe not one of hers because her rugs are signed [...]
announcement: she’s got my forehead

Yesterday we got a glimpse of the 23 week old little chiquita. I haven’t intentionally hidden the fact that I have a half-cooked bun in the oven but I was sick and it was winter before we left for 7 weeks in New Zealand and now it is lovely and there is no hiding [...]
